Q: Who is your favorite director and how do you like directing? - Kelly, 4th Grade

A: My favorite directors are Martin Scorcese, Billy Wilder, Francis Ford Coppola, Oliver Stone, Gordon Parks and Melvin Van Peebles for his film "Sweetback."



Q: As a big basketball fan, did you ever consider a basketball career? - Good question, however, I never considered a career in basketball.

A: Good question, however, I never considered a career in basketball. .



Q: What advice do you have for young people who want to pursue a career in the movie field? - Student

A: I think the easiest way to make it in the film industry is to really know how to write. It's a difficult industry but if you're a good writer, that would really make things easier on you.



Q: What are some of your favorite movies? - Student

A: Wizard of Oz, Sunset Boulevard, Raging Bull and Mean Streets



Q: Was there ever a special teacher in your life who you looked up to? - Jon, Marissa, Nick & Samantha, 3rd Grade

A: My film teacher in college, Dr. Herb Eichelberger. He was very instrumental in me becoming a filmmaker.



Q: How did you get a start in your career? - Rosa, 7th Grade

A: I went to Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA ) where I majored in Mass Communications and was introduced to film. After graduating from Morehouse, I went to NYU film school.



Q: What inspired you to be a movie director? - Carla, 7th Grade

A: One of the things I liked about film was that it encompassed almost all of the arts; dance, drama, music, photography - all of those things that interest me.



Q: When you were little, who did you look up to? - Student

A: I looked up to athletes. Walt Frazier, Muhammad Ali, Joe Namath, Willie Mays, Tom Seaver, Roberto Clemente. Those were the people I liked the most.



Q: What do you think are important characteristics of a good leader? - Student

A: I think good leaders are born with leadership qualities. They are good listeners and know how to delegate responsibilities.



Q: Which movie gave you the most emotional satisfaction? - Jeasanett, 7th Grade

A: Macolm X gave me the most satisfaction because Denzel and I were under a lot of pressure to deliver.



Q: Who helped you achieve your goals? - Jenifer, 7th Grade

A: My parents. They stressed education and I think that has helped me achieve my goals the most.



Q: How did you becoming famous make you a leader in the movie field? - Joselito, 7th Grade

A: I don't know if I'm a leader, I consider someone like Steven Spielberg a leader in the film industry. I think what happened is the fact that I've appeared in all of my films and I've done many commercials. Some people know me more for my commercials than as a filmmaker.



Q: Do you think education is important? - Keila, 7th Grade

A: Education is the key.



Q: How do you choose the movie topics you work on? - Student

A: It really depends on what I'm feeling at the time. I think all directors are storytellers and if there's a story I want to tell then that's the film I'll make.



Q: Who is your favorite player on the New York Knicks? - Student

A: "Patrick Ewing!"
