FAMILY DISASTER PLAN

Is your family prepared for a weather emergency?

It is important to plan ahead so that during an emergency you will know exactly what to do and how to get in touch with other family members.

How can you and your family be prepared for an emergency if a severe hurricane hits Long Island? Experts advise, don’t delay in formulating an emergency plan:

Your family disaster plan should include the following:

Family Action Plan
Family Communication Plan
Family Evacuation Plan
Family Disaster Supplies Kit

Teachers:
  1. Have your students create a disaster plan and emergency supplies kit checklist. (You and your students may use the disaster plan below or you may create your own.)
  2. Ensure that each child takes it home and discusses it with other family members.
  3. Encourage each student to post his or her family disaster plan in a highly visible central location at home.
