Before the Flood is a self-guided, interactive puzzle that challenges viewers to piece together events surrounding a flood and presents them with important information on water quality and flood safety.
Three levels describe three different floods and their major impacts on area watersheds. Viewers must arrange multimedia "pieces" in their correct chronological order to learn about the elements that led to the major impacts.

- After viewing scenes in the puzzle, the student will be able to identify various causes of floods. (all puzzles)
- After viewing scenes in the puzzle, the student will be able to identify safe responses to flood situations. (all puzzles)
- After reviewing all scenes presented for a scenario, the student will be able to organize video clips in chronological order. (all puzzles)
- The student will use the scientific method/inquiry to determine the possible causes of a Flash Flood in an urban area. (Flash Flood puzzle)
