Batwomen of Panama & Footprints on the Water: The Nan Hauser Story - A Smithsonian Channel Presentation
Batwomen of Panama: The Smithsonian Institution boasts an amazing research center off the coast of Panama. With an area of only 15 square kilometers, the island of Barro Colorado is home to a mind-boggling variety of wildlife – including a whopping 72 species of bats. After sunset, an extraordinary team of scientists known as the Batwomen of Panama set out into the jungle to find, track and study these mysterious creatures. Among their discoveries is the rarest and biggest bat in the tropics of the New World – the False Vampire bat. Footprints on the Water: The Nan Hauser Story: Follow the personal quest of American conservationist Nan Hauser as she journeys to some of the last unspoiled places on earth. She’s on a mission to unravel new clues to the behavior of whales and dolphins. Despite the fact that whales and dolphins are large animals, much of their behavior is still unrecorded. Nan Hauser has spent much of her adult life trying to track down and understand these remarkable creatures. Her groundbreaking work and dedication to saving the whales of Oceania have shown that one individual can make a difference in helping to stem the tide.
